Open Day 2004

Thanks again to those of you who came down to our Edgware branch for our 2004 Open Day on Sunday 31st October. Those who attended had the chance to chat with Steve Plater, this years pro-biker celebrity guest.

Steve Plater (Virgin Mobile Factory Yamaha rider)

PETER HENDRY

It is with great regret that we have to announce that on the 8th of September 2003, after a long battle with emphysema, and recently diagnosed cancer, Peter passed away peacefully. A great friend and work colleague.

Rex Judd was closed on Friday 19th September 2003 all day for Peter’s funeral.

The funeral procession left Deans Way, Edgware, Middlesex at 10:30am, then proceeded to Hendon Crematorium, Holders Hill Road, Hendon NW4.

The service took place at the above address at 11:20am.

Peter was a popular and well-liked person and a valued member of the Rex Judd team. On behalf of Rex Judd we would like to thank the huge number of people who turned up today to commemorate and celebrate this lovely man's life.

In what was a thoughtful and fitting service, a rapturous round of applause went up, giving thanks for Peter's life.

I am sure everyone who was present would have been made fully aware how many lives Peter had touched over the years. He will be sadly missed.

Peter Clarke receives rare honour for service to cadet force

A North Wembley man has been honoured for more than 40 years of service to the Army Cadet Force.

Peter Clarke, 55, of Llanover Road, was presented with the medal of the League of Mercy by the league's chairman, Sir Robert Balchin at a ceremony at the Mansion House in the City.

The league was founded in 1899 to recognise voluntary service in many areas, such as hospitals, community and youth work, and its medal is awarded to only 30 or so people every year. Peter was nominated for his work with the 205 Wembley detachment of the Army Cadet Force (PARA) which is based in Harrow Road.

He joined the unit as a cadet in November 1961, but instead of leaving at 18, he stayed on as an adult helper. He has acted as storekeeper for the unit, as well as being a father figure and supporter to the cadets, as well as several commanding officers.

He worked as a motorcycle mechanic for Rex Judd in Edgware, his skills coming in very useful for the unit, and attended meetings twice a week, despite having to care for his disabled father at the home they share. His father joined him at the Mansion House.

Peter said: "I was so proud. It¹s difficult to put into words how happy and pleased I am with this. I wasn¹t expecting it at all.

"It was a most marvelous day, we were so well looked after and had the presentation ceremony in a huge room that was full of splendour and London's history."

Detachment commander Group Sergeant Major John Lawrence, who put Peter's name forward for the medal, said: "I am so pleased that Peter's dedication and service have been recognised in this tangible way. So many young people have benefited from his steady and helpful influence and I think that counts for a lot."

Peter has no plans to retire, saying: "It's been a really rewarding part of my life and I'm just happy that I've been able to do something positive for these youngsters."

Peter Clarke has never flagged in his service to the ACF

Cadet force stands for spirit of service The cadet force is the Army's national voluntary youth organisation, with a membership of more than 40,000 12 to 18-year-old boys and girls.

Its aim is to inspire youngsters to achieve success in life, with a spirit of service to the Queen, country and their local communities.

There are 30 detachments in Middlesex and NW London, with 1,000 cadets taking part in a wide range of activities including sport, first aid, adventure training and community work, military skills and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
